Oh and by the way, every single error has occured whilst I have been attempting to complete the basic rocket tutorial.I received word from Huion that they are going to look into the driver issue. Does anyone know of any work arounds or fixes for this problem aside from buying an Nvidia card? I am looking into this option but I am a student who has very little money and will be hard pressed to get enough money together to get a decent Nvidia replacement for my X800 let alone the fact that I only need the card to do one of my Uni modules. If that is the case then why am I only having problems in Houdini? When other programmes have no problems (particularly noteworthy is Maya which has no issues whatsoever despite the fact it does pretty much the same job as Houdini).

I know there have been issues with ATI cards, I have read a lot on the forums saying that it is the drivers to blame. I also noticed that in Linux the models created aren't shown as ‘neatly’ as they were shown in Windows (I was using the latest Linux ATI drivers but it still looked wrong when compared to the windows version). (I can't remember the exact errors but they were similar Segmentation Errors). The part which really got me was the errors being thrown up are the same as the errors being thrown up by Win64. Rendering is still an issue with the machine hanging. Things were going well right up untill the point where I start to mess about with the lights and cameras (shadows seem to be a particular problem). 549) and get it running (why do you have to use sudo to load houdini just to be able to save? but anyway) I started trying to get on with my university work.

After sorting out the install (Ubuntu 5.10) I managed to figure out how to get Houdini installed (was using version. Now I'm not a complete Linux beginner but it did take me a while to get everything set up and running smoothley.
I tried to do some of my own trouble shooting and decided to give Linux a shot. Well, almost two weeks later and no responses :cry. These hangs aren't hard-crashes just soft crashes back to the desktop, occasionally having to ctrl-alt-del out to end the process.
Anybody recognise any of these symptons and/or can suggest anything to help? TIA Bob P.s.

My system is as follows: AMD 64 3500+ 1 Gig DDR400 RAM X800 XT PE 256 Graphics card (with Catalyst 6.3) Plenty of HD space Windows XP Professional 64 bit I had been having problems (especially in games) with some older Catalyst drivers and had originally thought that was the source of the problem, however upon upgrading the drivers these problems still persist. Unable to do a preview render (you know, when you hit tab -> render and drag a box, if I'm lucky I get 2 or 3 blocks at the bottom left corner rendered then it hangs). These are: Sporadic crashing when selecting “Save As…” (Segmentation error). So far I have been using 8.0.478 and 8.0.536 but both versions seem to be throwing up the same problems. Right, I'm using Houdini Apprentice to create a short animation for one of my University Modules but have run into a few problems.
